[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan today announced the selection of Steve May as the new Executive Director of the Minnesota Racing Commission. Steve will replace former Executive Director Thomas DiPasquale, who retired earlier this year.
Steve most recently served as the Director of Pari-Mutuel Wagering and Compliance with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. His previous experience includes working as the Vice President and Business Manager of the Association of Racing Commissioners International and working as the Assistant Racing Secretary with Tioga Downs Racetrack and Casino. Steven holds a master’s degree in animal science from the University of Arizona, a master’s of business administration from West Texas A&M University, and completed the Racing Officials Accreditation Program at the University of Louisville.
“I’m grateful for Tom DiPasquale’s years of service to our state and look forward to having Steve May join our team,” said Governor Walz. “His integrity and range of experience will make him an outstanding leader of the Racing Commission.”

The Minnesota Racing Commission ensures the integrity of horse racing and card playing, oversees the proper distribution of funds back into the industry, and provides for the safety and welfare of the human and equine participants. Additionally, the Commission works to promote the horse racing and breeding industry in Minnesota in order to provide economic stimulus.
