[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz today announced the /governor/assets/12.20.19%20Cass.%20Itasca%20DACA%20Authorization%20letter_tcm1055-414210.pdfauthorization of state disaster assistance for Cass and Itasca Counties for damage sustained from a severe thunderstorm with gale force winds and heavy rain on October 21, 2019.

“We have a duty to help our friends and neighbors in Cass and Itasca Counties,” said Governor Walz. “That’s why we’re authorizing state disaster assistance to aid in recovery and help Minnesotans get back on track.”

A state/county preliminary damage assessment identified $160,842 in eligible damages, meeting the state disaster assistance threshold. The Cass County and Itasca County Boards of Commissioners declared local emergencies in their respective counties and a submitted request for state disaster assistance to aid in recovery.

This authorization by the Governor allows the State Disaster Assistance Contingency Account to cover 75% of eligible costs, or $120,631.
