[ST. PAUL, MN] – Today, Governor Tim Walz declared June 15th, 2019 as Joe Mauer Day in recognition of the former Minnesota Twins catcher’s legacy and contributions to Minnesota sports.
“Joe spent his entire 15-year Major League career with the Minnesota Twins, and on September 30, 2018, he played his final game,” reads the proclamation from Governor Walz. “He became the first catcher to ever win the American League batting title, won three AL batting crowns overall, was a six-time AL All-Star, earned five Louisville Slugger "Silver Slugger Awards" and three Rawlings Gold Glove Awards, and was the 2009 AL Most Valuable Player.”
Governor Walz will present the proclamation to Mauer at the June 14th Minnesota Twins game against the Kansas City Royals.
