[ST. PAUL, MN] – In honor and remembrance of Congressman John David Dingell, Jr., and in accordance with an order issued by President Donald Trump, Governor Tim Walz has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota, until sunset, February 9, 2019. The order comes after Congressman John David Dingell, Jr. of Michigan, the longest- serving Member of Congress in the Nation’s history, passed away at the age of 92 on February 7, 2019

At the age of 18, Congressman Dingell joined the United States Army where he became a second lieutenant during World War II. He then went on to earn a B.S. from Georgetown University and a J.D. from Georgetown Law. After graduation,  he worked as a research assistant for a U.S. Circuit Court Judge and as the assistant prosecuting attorney for Wayne County. When Dingell, Sr. passed away in office in 1955, Dingell Jr. won the special election to succeed his father in the House.

Over the course of fifty years, Congressman Dingell led the charge on many issues that have left a positive impact on all Americans. Congressman Dingell bravely and faithfully served the United States of America for over fifty years, and the people of Minnesota have benefited from his leadership.
