[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz has proclaimed January 21, 2019 Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Minnesota. The proclamation recognizes the contributions Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. made toward a more just and equal nation. This announcement comes before the 33rd Annual State of Minnesota Martin Luther King Day Celebration. Every year since 1986, the Governor’s Council on the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday has hosted a statewide event. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Women of Color in STEM.”
“Dr. King continues to influence and inspire a nation with his words, ‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that,’” reads Governor Walz’s proclamation. “His words entreat us to serve each other, care for one another, and continue striving toward a more just, equal, and prosperous society for all.”
