[ST. PAUL, MN] – Today, Governor Tim Walz announced an application process to select a new commissioner to lead the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).
“Commissioner Margaret Anderson Kelliher’s efforts to improve and expand our state’s extensive transportation system put the Minnesota Department of Transportation in a strong position for the future,” said Governor Walz. “I am thankful for the dedicated public servants who will step forward and apply to lead this important agency.”
“The Minnesota Department of Transportation leads the way on providing a wide variety of safe, accessible, and sustainable transportation options for countless Minnesotans every day,” said Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan. “We will search for a leader who embodies MnDOT’s commitment to building a world-class transportation system with options for every Minnesotan.”
Commissioner Anderson Kelliher was appointed by Governor Walz in December 2018. Her last day as Commissioner is March 1, 2022. Deputy Commissioner and Chief Engineer Nancy Daubenberger will serve as temporary commissioner until the Governor appoints a new commissioner.
MnDOT is the principal Minnesota state agency that plans, builds, operates, and maintains safe, accessible, efficient, and reliable multimodal transportation system to connect Minnesotans to destinations and markets throughout the state, regionally, and around the world. MnDOT makes special efforts to consider the social, economic, and environmental effects of its decisions and aggressively promotes the efficient use of energy resources for transportation purposes. It also maintains close working relationships with the many public and private individuals, groups, and associations involved in transportation.
