About the Governor’s Council on Minnesota’s Lake Superior Coastal Program
Minnesota’s Lake Superior Coastal Program is a partnership between the State of Minnesota and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The Program, administered by the Department of Natural Resources, provides support for the coastal communities in Carlton, Cook, Lake, and St. Louis Counties through technical assistance and has administered over $18 million in pass-through grants since 1999.
The Council consists of citizens throughout the coastal area and state at-large. It makes recommendations to the Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources on priorities, programs, and funding for grant projects that benefit the coastal area. Council members assist the Coastal Program in its goal to preserve, protect, develop, and where possible, restore or enhance Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior.
