Governor Walz Signs Twenty-Six Bills Into Law

[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz signed twenty-six bills into law this week. You can view all bills the Governor has signed this session here.


·         Chapter 40, S.F. 1100: This bill empowers the Prairie Island Indian Community to exercise concurrent state law enforcement jurisdictional authority.

·         Chapter 41, S.F. 328: This bill removes two restrictions placed on a hospital bed moratorium exception granted to Ridgeview Medical Center in Carver County.

·         Chapter 42, H.F. 148: This bill permits community emergency medical technicians to be members of basic life support ambulance services.

·         Chapter 43, H.F. 873: This bill repeals state protections against the unauthorized use of the word “Portorama.”

·         Chapter 44, H.F. 892: This bill modifies pharmacy licensure requirements to allow manufacturers and distributors of dialysate or devices to perform home peritoneal dialysis on patients with end-stage renal disease.

·         Chapter 45, H.F. 51: This bill allows homeowners to legally discharge restrictive covenants affecting protected classes from their property title.

·         Chapter 46, S.F. 2081: This bill modifies the requirements for facility or organization participation in the volunteer health care provider program.

·         Chapter 47, H.F. 359: This bill further prohibits the use of flame-retardant chemicals in certain household products and bans the use of certain firefighting foams.

·         Chapter 48, H.F. 2097: This bill modifies the qualification requirements for the Hennepin County library director.

·         Chapter 49, H.F. 637: This bill updates the provisions governing background checks conducted by health-related licensing boards and procedures related to temporary suspensions.

·         Chapter 50, H.F. 1065: Revisor’s Bill; this bill makes miscellaneous corrections to existing laws and statutes and removes redundant, conflicting, and superseded provisions.

·         Chapter 51, H.F. 2697: This bill settles claims against the state as related to the Department of Corrections and appropriates money.

·         Chapter 52, H.F. 1262: This bill modifies provisions related to the Board of Marriage and Family Therapy.

·         Chapter 53, H.F. 129: This bill requires compensation and expense reimbursement for public members of the Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities.

·         Chapter 54, S.F. 573: This bill recodifies and makes technical changes to the chapter relating to elderly waivers.

·         Chapter 55, S.F. 1003: This bill designates a section of U.S. Highway 61 near Jordan, Minnesota as the “Richard J. Ames Memorial Highway.”

·         Chapter 56, S.F. 1261: This bill designates a segment of marked Trunk Highway 23 in Kandiyohi County between New London and Spicer as the "Ryane Clark Memorial Highway.”

·         Chapter 57, S.F. 2089: This bill modifies the membership of the Nonemergency Medical Transportation Advisory Committee.

·         Chapter 58, H.F. 990: This bill adds an exemption to licensing requirements for residential mortgage originators and provides for conformity with federal truth in lending requirement

·         Chapter 59, H.F. 1960: This bill makes technical changes to provisions administered by the Department of Commerce.

·         Chapter 60, H.F. 90: This bill establishes licensure requirements for assisted living facilities and protections for residents of assisted living facilities.

·         Chapter 61, S.F. 1257: This bill authorizes individuals who undergo required training to possess and administer epinephrine auto-injectors.

·         Chapter 62, S.F. 316: This bill requires state agencies to provide an opportunity for user acceptance testing of new information technology software to a local government if the local government will be the primary user and if operations of the local government will be significantly impacted.

·         Chapter 63, H.F. 400: This bill enacts a fee on opioid manufacturers and distributors and provides local communities with resources to combat opioid addiction, intervention, treatment, and recovery.

·         Chapter 64, S.F. 2415: This bill provides a budget and policy changes for the Office of Higher Education, the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, and the University of Minnesota.

·         Chapter 65, S.F. 973: This bill establishes an advisory council on rare diseases through the University of Minnesota.
