Walz, Flanagan Announce Application Process for the Next Minnesota Gambling Control Board Executive Director

[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan today announced the commencement of an application process to appoint the next Executive Director of the Minnesota Gambling Control Board. The current Director, Tom Barrett, has announced that he will be retiring next month.

 This highly visible position reports directly to the Governor and Lieutenant Governor and is in the unclassified service. The appointment will be made by the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, with advice and consent of the Senate, from a list of candidates recommended by the board. The position exists to plan, coordinate, and direct the regulation, licensing, compliance, and educational operations of the Gambling Control Board agency and its staff. The Director will provide the day-to-day responsibility and long-term leadership for assuring the board operates with integrity, security, and transparency in a manner that ensures public confidence. The board oversees a $2 billion charitable gambling industry while operating on a $3.5 million annual budget.  The application process will go though the State of Minnesota’s hiring portal through Minnesota Management and Budget. The deadline to apply is by the end of the day on Monday, June 10, 2019.
