[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor-elect Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor-elect Peggy Flanagan today announced they received nearly 500 applications for the leadership role in twenty-three state agencies. Nearly 1,500 Minnesotans have submitted applications to work in the Administration overall—spread across the Governor’s office and agencies. While the deadline was December 7th for Commissioner roles, the transition team continues to accept applications for other roles through the end of December. 

“During our listening tour, we encouraged Minnesotans from all backgrounds to step up and serve their state,” Walz said. “It’s clear they heard the call. I’m heartened so many people are passionate about coming together to make One Minnesota a reality.”

The Walz-Flanagan Transition Team has done extensive outreach to encourage Minnesotans to engage in the hiring process. State Agency Hiring Directors fanned out to meet with over 1,000 stakeholders and community groups. Traveling across the state, the Directors surfaced candidates and issues that residents offered regarding the agencies. The Transition Advisory Board members have amplified this outreach in their own communities by networking and encouraging people to engage in the hiring process. Earlier this month, the governor-elect and lieutenant governor-elect held 23 public listening sessions across Minnesota. Traveling 2,100 miles, they asked Minnesotans what values, perspectives, and leadership characteristics they hope to see in their commissioners and encouraged attendees to apply to be commissioners themselves.

“We are thrilled so many Minnesotans are engaging in our hiring process,” Flanagan said. “We look forward to building an Administration that reflects the diverse talents, experiences, and perspectives that make up our great state.”

To apply for a leadership position with the Walz-Flanagan Administration (like Assistant or Deputy Commissioner) or for a position in the Governor's Office, please email a resume and cover letter to Gov.Careers@state.mn.us by December 28 at 11:59 pm. Any applicant who is not selected to advance in the hiring process for commissioners will have the opportunity to apply for assistant or deputy commissioner roles.
