[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor-elect Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor-elect Peggy Flanagan today announced vacancies on nearly 100 state boards and commissions. Applicants are especially sought for the Compensation Council and the Legislative Salary Council, on which vacancies will be filled next month.

“As we prepare to appoint members of the Compensation and Legislative Salary Councils next month, we encourage Minnesotans from every corner of the state and from all backgrounds and political ideologies to apply,” Walz said.

“Everyone deserves a seat at the table and serving on a state board or commission is a great way to make your voice heard,” said Flanagan.

The Secretary of State’s office published all vacancies in early November. Minnesotans interested in applying for membership on any state board or commission must complete an Open Appointments Application Form. Candidates should follow the application process found at https://www.sos.state.mn.us/boards-commissions/.

Compensation Council

The Compensation Council is created each odd-numbered year to assist the Legislature in establishing the compensation of Constitutional Officers, Justices of the Supreme Court, Judges of the Court of Appeals and District Court, and the Commissioners of state agencies. Appointments will include one member from each Congressional District, of whom no more than four may belong to the same political party.

Legislative Salary Council

The Legislative Salary Council was created with the passing of a Constitutional Amendment in 2016. The Council prescribes the salaries of Minnesota Legislators. One member will be appointed from the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th Congressional Districts – existing members from the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th, Congressional Districts will remain on the Council. No appointee may be a current or former legislator, the spouse of a current legislator, a current or former lobbyist registered under Minnesota law, a current employee of the Legislature, a current or former judge, or a current or former Constitutional Officer.

Additional boards and commissions with available seats include the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission, Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board, Board of Water and Soil Resources, Clean Water Council, Explore Minnesota Tourism Council, Juvenile Justice Advisory Council, and many more.
