MFT Exam Information

AMFTRB National Examination in MFT

The Application for National Examination in MFT, the initial application for those seeking LMFT licensure, must be filed within six months of commencement of an applicant's post-graduate supervised experience.  (See Minn. Rule 5300.0155.)  Upon notification of Board approval of this application, the applicant is provided with a national exam registration code.  This code remains valid for two years and the approved applicant may schedule the exam in any month of choice within that two-year period (testing is NOT immediately required after notification of application approval).

An applicant for MN LMFT licensure may take the AMFTRB National Examination in MFT five times.  (See Minn. Rule 5300.0240.)  After five attempts at exam passage, an applicant may file an administrative variance seeking to take the exam for a sixth/final time.  Applicants unable to pass the MFT National exam after six attempts are notified of application closure.

Additional exam resources and upcoming national examination dates are available on the AMFTRB National Exam page of the Board's website.
