About Us

STAR has been serving people with disabilities for more than twenty years. Here are a few interesting facts about us:

  • STAR was established in 1989 under the Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1988, which as also known as the Tech Act. This Act was repealed with the passage of the Assistive Technology Act.
  • STAR is currently 100% federally funded by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) in accordance with the Assistive Technology Act of 1998, as amended (P.L. 108-364) also known as the Assistive Technology Act of 2004.
  • STAR is a division of the Minnesota Department of Administration
  • STAR works collaboratively with partners to increase statewide access to assistive technology through demonstrations, loans and reuse services.
  • STAR serves people of all ages who live in Minnesota.
  • STAR promotes the use of assistive technology at home, school, work and in the community.
