You will need to encode your video for viewing in a particular player, such as Windows Media Player, QuickTime, or Flash. The most common types of web video right now are:

The type of caption file you need is also determined by the player you will be using.

Web video captions are combined with the video in one of two ways:

  1. Stored as a separate file (the most common approach) or
  2. Embedded into the digital video.
