Embedding Captions

The alternative to storing captions as a separate file is to embed the captions into the video.
Flash and QuickTime both offer the embedding alternative. While this removes the need to deal with multiple files, embedding has a few limitations:
- Any Quicktime version can use embedded "qttext" captions, but only QuickTime versions 7.4 and newer can handle the popular SCC format of the embedded closed caption track
- Extra time, software, and knowledge are required to perform the embedding
- If a vendor is performing the embed for you they will need to transfer a video file to you rather than simply email a small caption data file
Some caption vendors may ask clients to embed the file themselves if they can, as it provides the client with greater control over the content.
