Disadvantages of Captioning Software

May be platform-specific. Some programs only work on Windows PC or Apple's Mac computers.
May require more technical skill. Some programs expect the user to be relatively familiar with conventions common to non-linear editing programs.
May be limited to proprietary file formats. Web-based tools also share this disadvantage – the key is to make sure that the tool you use supports the file format you need.
May cost money. Some programs have free trial periods or may offer a free or low cost version that provides less features than the full-cost program. As your skills and needs become more sophisticated you may have to spend money for the “real thing.”
