The State of Minnesota Hiring Process

What happens after I submit my application?

  1. Applicant resumes are first reviewed by the hiring agency for statute requirements and contractual considerations that are mandated by applicable bargaining unit contracts or plans for that position.
  2. After the job posting closes, resumes and screening questions are reviewed by the hiring agency to determine who meets the minimum qualifications required for the position.
  3. Applicants who do not meet the required minimum qualifications will receive an email notification from the hiring agency indicating they are no longer being considered for the position. Applicants have the opportunity to appeal this qualification determination.
  4. Applicants who meet the required minimum qualification are forwarded to the hiring manager for review and may be contacted to complete further assessments and/or invited to interview. If there are a large number of applicants who meet the minimum qualifications, the pool of applicants may be narrowed down based on the preferred qualifications.
  5. After the interviews take place, the top candidate is selected. If you are selected, before receiving an online job offer, the hiring manager will have a conversation with you outlining the job offer details. The extended job offer is contingent upon you passing the necessary background and reference checks. You will also receive an email with instructions to view the offer on your My Job Notifications page and accept the offer online.

At any time in the selection process you can check your application status by signing in to your account and select My Job Applications, then view the Application Status column. If you are no longer interested in a position for which you applied, you can select Withdraw on the My Job Applications page to be removed from consideration.
