Who’s eligible for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare?

Use this quick guide to see which program may fit your situation for using the online application. Your final eligibility will be based on your household size, income, age, pregnancy status and Minnesota residency:

  • Both programs require you to live in Minnesota or plan to live in Minnesota.
  • Both programs require you to be a U.S. citizen or qualified non-citizen to be eligible.

If your household income is very low

You may qualify for Medical Assistance

  • Most children, pregnant people, and adults ages 19-64 qualify at lower income levels
  • No monthly premium
  • Small co-pays for some services

If your income is too high for Medical Assistance but still limited

You may qualify for MinnesotaCare

  • For people with income below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
  • Low monthly premium based on income
  • Small copays may apply
