Rescinded May 28, 2021: Executive Order allows out-of-state telehealth providers ends May 28, 2021

On Monday, April 6, 2020, Minnesota Governor Walz issued Executive Order 20-28, pursuant to Minn. Stat. 12.42, granting out-of-state mental health providers holding a valid, unencumbered license in another US jurisdiction, the ability to provide telehealth services in Minnesota during the COVID-19 peacetime emergency.

Licensed out-of-state mental health providers, in good standing, may register with Boards of Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Behavioral Health and Therapy, to provide telehealth to meet needs of Minnesotans during COVID-19 emergency.

Before practicing telehealth in Minnesota, the healthcare provider shall (a) complete a required Registration Form and submit the form, a copy of the provider’s current health license, as well as a copy of a current photo ID, to the MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy; and (b) receive from the MN Board of MFT an acknowledgment of receipt of the Registration Form and required documents prior to commencing telehealth services in Minnesota.  On May 6, 2021, Governor Walz announced that EO 20-28 will be rescinded and telehealth services by out-of-state registrants will end on May 28, 2021.
