OUR MISSION
The mission of the Board of Marriage and Family Therapy is to protect the public through effective licensure and enforcement of the statutes and rules governing the practice of marriage and family therapists to ensure a standard of competent and ethical practice.
** Effective August 1, 2023, all US Bank service fees will be the responsibility of the card holder. Service fees are non-refundable.
Effective February 26, 2025, the Criminal Background Check fee has decreased from $33.25 to $32.00.
The MN Board of MFT has moved from its Minneapolis location to the Randolph Square Office Park, 335 Randolph Avenue, Suite 260, in St. Paul. While the building is open to the public, Board staff recommend that business primarily be conducted using email (mft.board@state.mn.us), telephone (612-617-2220) or online services.

All Board Meetings are open to the public to attend electronically or in person (beginning September 1, 2022 when in-person attendance is indicated).

- September 26, 2025 - 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Open to the public to attend electronically or in person. The Agenda with information on joining the meeting electronically and Resource Documents will be posted when available.

Council of Health Boards (Minn.Stat.214.025):
- October 6, 2025 - The Council of Health Boards will meet on October 6, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. regarding proposed Clinical Art Therapist licensure (MN House File 2590 / Senate File 1675). The meeting will be held in person only in the Board Room (Room 104), 335 Randolph Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55102. The purpose of the meeting is to review the request for licensure and regulation of Clinical Art Therapists. Questions may be directed to Ruth Grendahl (ruth.grendahl@state.mn.us or 651-548-2195). NOTE: This is not a meeting of the MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy. Notice is provided on the Board's website for informational purposes only.
Rules Committee Meeting Dates & Information:
- Draft Rules for Review: (1) Minn. Rule 5300 (proposed changes as of 10/23/2024); (2) Summary of proposed rule changes
- Request for Comments for Proposed Rules: Public comment is being accepted regarding the Board's proposed rules. See MN State Register, May 12, 2025. Written comments, questions, or requests for additional information will be accepted by email (mft.board@state.mn.us) until July 18, 2025.
MFT National Examination Test Prep Pilot Program:
- Information and application for the first round of MFT National Exam Test Prep Program scholarships is anticipated for distribution Summer of 2025. Check back for further updates.
