Minnesota Attorney General Mike Hatch
Honored for Supporting Rights of Disabled

Attorney General Mike Hatch and Council Chair Jackie Mlynarczyk

Minnesota Attorney General Mike Hatch was recognized at the Council's October 4, 2000 meeting for the leadership he has demonstrated in supporting the civil rights of people with disabilities.

At the presentation Jackie Mlynarczyk, Council Chair, stated, "You have gained the respect and admiration of Attorneys General across the United States in confronting the challenges brought against the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), first in the Olmstead case and now in the Garrett case.

"Minnesota is setting the tone and you are setting an example - our state does value the lives and contributions of people with disabilities. You have demonstrated your commitment to meet the legal challenges that question the constitutionality of the ADA and threaten to erode the basic rights contained in this landmark federal legislation.

"We are extremely grateful to you and your staff for preparing the 'amicus curiae' brief for Garrett."
