Self Advocacy – Ambassadors for Respect Anti-Bullying Campaign


On September 30, 2019, the first training session for the 2019-2020 school year was held at Bancroft Elementary School (Minneapolis) with 19 students participating. Eight Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:
"I learned about People First language.""
"I learned to help people when they are bullied."
"I will not judge people for ow they feel or their color."

Knowledge gained = 4.7 Usefulness = 4.7 Quality of presentations = 4.6
On October 1, 2019, a second training session was held at Bancroft Elementary School with 23 students and one teacher participating. Nine Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:
"I will help others when they are confused or sad."
"People should be treated fairly."
"Be kind and use People First language."
"I never knew how much bulling happened."

On October 2, 2019, two training sessions were held at Bancroft Elementary School. Twenty-five students and one teacher participated with nine Ambassadors leading the first training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:
"I learned to advocate for myself and others."
"If someone feels left out, I will help them."
"I learned to not bully."

For the second training session at Bancroft Elementary School, 22 students and one teacher participated with nine Ambassadors leading the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:
"I will help people when they really need it."
"I learned that words are powerful."
"I learned to stand up for people."

On October 7, 2019, a training session was held at Bryn Mawr Elementary School (Minneapolis) with 25 students and two teachers participating. Nine Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:
"I learned that you can be kind in many ways."
"I learn not to bully."
"I will be nice, include others, and treat people how I want to be treated."
"I learned that being nice is better than being mean."

On October 9, 2019, a second training session was held at Bryn Mawr Elementary School with 21 students and two teachers participating. Nine Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:

"How to be respectful when a new kid comes."
"I learned not to judge others. Include others and advocate for others. Help people and be kind."

On October 14, 2019, a training session was held at Waite Park Elementary School (Minneapolis) with 20 students and one teacher participating. Ten Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:
"I learned that teasing and hurting is NOT ok."
"I learned to include others more and be helpful."
"I will respect every person."
"I will be an advocate for myself and others! We are all ambassadors!"

On October 28, 2019, a training session was held at Lucy Laney Elementary School (Minneapolis) with 25 students and one teacher participating. Nine Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:

"I learned to make peace, show love, and respect others."
"Show support, respect others."

On October 30, 2019, a second training session was held at Lucy Laney Elementary School with 21 students and two teachers participating. Nine Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:

On November 12, 2019 a training session was held at Castle Elementary School (Rosedale) with 24 students and one teacher participating. Six Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:
"Bullying is mean. Include others to play."
"If you have a disability, you are still the same."
"NEVER let someone get bullied."
"I will ALWAYS include others."

On November 13, 2019, a second training session was held at Castle Elementary School with 25 students and one teacher participating. Six Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:

"I learned it doesn’t matter what other people say because no one is perfect."
"Treat people the same."
"Play with others who are alone."

On November 19, 2019, a training session was held at Lucy Laney Elementary School. Twenty-five students and one teacher participated. Eight Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:
"I think about the person, not their disability."
"I will help people who are being bullied, to be friends with people who have a disability."
"I will help others learn and try to be their friend."
"Be more kind and be more respectful."

On November 21, 2019, a training session was held at Castle Elementary School. Twenty six students and one teacher participated. Six Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:

On December 10, 2019 three training sessions were held at Cowern Elementary School (North St. Paul) with 40 students and three teachers participating. Six Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:

"Respect people with disabilities."
"Be more kind."
"Don’t Bully!"

On January 28, 2020, seven Ambassadors for Respect led a training session at Richardson Elementary School. Eighteen students and one teacher participated. Student comments and what they learned included the following:
"Be nice, the outside is not what counts."
"Stand up for others."
"People have differences and that's OK."
"Bullying is not OK and you should use person first language."

On January 29, 2020, a second training session was held at Richardson Elementary School. Seventeen students and one teacher participated with seven Ambassadors leading the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:
"Be an upstander."
Advocate means stand up for others."
Always include others."
"People first means no label."

On January 30, 2020, a third training session was held at Richardson Elementary School. Twenty-four students and one teacher participated. Seven Ambassadors led the training session. Student comments and what they learned included the following:
"I learned what the word advocate means."
"Acts of kindness can go a long way and can make someone happy."
"I learned how to use person first language."

On February 5, 2020, seven Ambassadors for Respect led a training session at Bel Air Elementary School. 26 students and one teacher participated. Students shared the following comments about what they learned:
"I will stand up for others more."
"I learned that bullying is mean and you should not bully."
"I learned that you can use nicer words than blind and you should put the person first."

On February 12, 2020, seven Ambassadors for Respect led a training session at Webster Elementary School. 28 students and one teacher participated. Students shared the following comments about what they learned:
"I learned to be an upstander and not to judge others."
"I learned you must choose your words wisely."
"I learned that your words and actions affect others. Also, just because someone has a disability doesn’t make them any different from you."
"Do not bully and stand up against bullies."
"I learned that you should be kind and help others"

On March 4, 2020, seven Ambassadors for Respect led a second training session at Webster Elementary School. Twenty-eight students and one teacher participated. Students shared the following comments about what they learned:
"I learned to be kind and nice no matter what."
"I learned what person first language means and why it’s important."
"I will do better to be kind to everyone."
"I learned how to be an advocate and what it means to advocate."

On March 6, 2020, five Ambassadors for Respect led a training session at St. John the Baptist Elementary School. Thirty-five students and one teacher participated. Students shared the following comments about what they learned:
"You should not bully even if you want to."
"Even if you have a disability or not we are all he same."
"I learned what being an advocate to others means."
"Help when people get bullied."
