Recorded and Live Captioning

World Cup video with captions

Example of live video captioning on ESPN3.com

The captioning process is different for recorded and live web video.

Creating recorded captions is a post-production process similar to video editing. You can edit the captions for accuracy and time the text to synchronize with the audio and visuals.

Live captions use one or more specialized service to generate and stream the captions onto the user's screen. Captions are unedited, so minor mistakes are rarely corrected and captions tend to lag behind the video.
