Once you've contracted the vendor, then what?

  1. Make sure that you (or your video producer) manage the production process as planned and deliver the video in the agreed-upon format to the captioning provider.
  2. The captioning provider will typically email a file to you in the specified format. Now you have to combine the file with your web video player, a process outlined in detail in Module 2. If you are not familiar with the process, some captioning vendors can provide you with helpful directions based on the file format. In addition, if you are also working with a website vendor or programmer, that person or agency should know what to do with the file.
  3. Upload the video and caption file as specified and test! If the captions do not appear, make sure you have toggled the player's captioning specifications to “on.” If the captions still do not appear, check for the caption file's location. The player software is looking in a specific place for the caption file, which may be the same folder as the caption file, one level up, or even the server's root level. Make sure the caption file is in the appropriate location.
