Vendor Acquisition: Defining Your Request

Lightbulb

What do you want the vendor to do with your product? The vendor needs to know three things:

  1. The player you will use to display your video. The vendor will probably recommend a particular caption file format for that player. (If you are embedding the captioning into the video, then they will be following a different process.)
  2. How do you want to receive the caption file? Typically, the vendor will email it to whatever address you specify.
  3. Ask the vendor whether there are any file conversion or reformat charges. Between receiving your work product and delivering a caption file to you, the vendor may have to do a number of steps. For example, if you are delivering the file via a hard drive, the vendor may have to transfer the file to a different format and will charge you for that process. You may be able to avoid these charges by delivering the video in a different format.
