Economic Competitiveness
The Long-Range Planning Team is collaborating with state agencies and regional partners to develop a statewide vision for economic competitiveness and shared prosperity. This effort seeks to balance economic growth with community well-being and environmental stewardship. In this plan, Long-Range Planning Team will:
- Establish a unified vision for Minnesota's long-term economic future.
- Integrate regional priorities and barriers, statewide assets, and emerging trends to guide decision-making and investment.
- Coordinate action across sectors to advance shared economic prosperity for all Minnesotans.
Project goals
- Build relationships with key partners across the state.
- Gather input from a wide variety of communities and industries through surveys and engagement activities.
- Identify regional strengths, barriers and emerging economic opportunities.
- Develop a statewide economic competitiveness plan and supporting materials.
- Develop metrics to track statewide progress on priorities.
- Support agencies in implementing the plan.

Engagement and Discovery Phase
2026
- Host meetings with key economic development partners.
- Launch Long-Range Planning workshops at partner events to introduce the project and gather broad community and industry input.
- Release a comprehensive survey in collaboration with regional and statewide partners.
Analysis and Plan Development Phase
2027
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify regional strengths, barriers and emerging opportunities.
- Work with partners to identify key uncertainties and evolving economic conditions affecting Minnesota's future.
- Finalize and release the statewide economic competitiveness plan.
Long-Term Implementation Phase

- Develop strategic support materials, including policy briefs and communications resources.
- Share planning resources with agencies and regional partners.
