ONLINE RENEWAL SITE REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS

Please note that renewal forms are mailed as a courtesy. All registrations must be renewed annually with or without the form.
 
All registration types require a separate online account with a username and password for each. Your barber and barbershop registrations each require separate online accounts.

Renewals may also be completed by mail or in person.

Agency

The Board accomplishes the mission of promoting public health and safety in relation to the barbering profession and barbering services provided to the public by:

  • Setting standards of practice and conduct;
  • Reviewing applications in a thorough manner to ensure compliance with statutes and rules;
  • Setting educational requirements and examination standards;
  • Conducting barber examinations to ensure professional standards of service are met;
  • Inspecting barbershops and schools to ensure compliance with statues and rules;
  • Responding to inquiries, complaints, and reports regarding registrations and conduct of registered barbers and unregistered practitioners;
  • Providing information and education to the public;
  • Providing clear and concise inspection reports of barber shops.

The Board's registration and inspection processes are designed to ensure that barbers and barbershops meet or exceed the legislative and Board established criteria designed to protect public health and safety.

News

  • The Board welcomes new barber member Collette Lease, appointed by Governor Tim Walz to the Board. Governor Walz also re-appointed Robert "Clarence" Jones as the public member of the Board. Terms began July 2, 2019 and end January 2, 2023. 
  • The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board is Monday September 9, 2019 and will be held at 8:30 am at 2829 University Avenue SE, Minneapolis, MN, 4th Floor Conference Room A. This meeting is open to the public. 
  • The next scheduled Registered Barber Examination will be held on Monday, November 4, 2019. Applications for the August exam are due by Friday, October 18, 2019.
  • The 2019 legislative session has ended. There were no changes to Minnesota Chapter 154, Barbers. The Board will continue to work on proposed changes to introduce in the future.  Click Here to review the current inactive proposed language. Updates will be posted as the proposal changes.

  • The Secretary of State takes applications for Board Member appointments and the Governor makes the appointments. Click Here for additional information. The Barber Board currently has no open Board positions.

  • Registered Barber Examinations are held on the first Monday in February, May, August, and November. Deadlines for applications are the 20th of the month prior to each scheduled exam unless the 20th falls on a weekend, and then the deadline is the Friday before the 20th.
