Updated News About Face Coverings in Minnesota

1/1/0001 12:00:00 AM

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) released new recommendations advising that vaccinated people are not required to wear face coverings in most places. Governor Tim Walz has issued Emergency Executive Order 21-23 that has changed the face covering requirements for barber shops and salons.

Face Coverings:

  • Executive Order 21-23 lifts face-covering requirements in barber shops and salons.
  • All unvaccinated people are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering in accordance with Minnesota Department of Health and CDC recommendations until they are fully vaccinated.
  • The city and county in which your barbershop or salon resides may have rules or guidelines regarding face coverings. Call them if you have questions regarding their requirements.
  • As a business owner you can set face covering policies in your establishment. Use your knowledge of your customers to set a face covering policy that will keep people safe.

Continue Social Distancing: Ensure that social distancing of at least 6 feet is maintained between all people— including customers, visitors, and workers—whenever possible. Continue to incorporate barriers, screens or curtains if you are already doing so.

Manage Indoor Occupancy: Indoor occupancy must ensure that the number of individuals in the establishment at any one time is limited to the number for whom physical distancing of six feet can be maintained. Working by appointment is not required but is still a helpful tool for managing social distancing and contact tracing.

Personal Care Services Requirements: Follow the rest of the recommendations found in the Requirements for Personal Care Services guide for Covid-19. LINK The face covering requirements in the Personal Care Services Requirements are no longer required per Executive Order 21-23.
