Becoming a Board Member

Board members are appointed by the Governor to four year terms. The Board consists of five members: four barbers and one public member. Board members are not employees of the State and are compensated at a rate of $55.00 per day by expense reimbursement for Board meetings and Board activities.

To be appointed to the Board of Barber Examiners, barber members must have practiced as registered barbers in Minnesota for at least five years immediately prior to their appointment. To apply for appointment to the Board, contact the Minnesota Secretary of State Office at 651-297-5845 or visit the Open Commissions and Appointments page of the Secretary of State website. Vacancies are listed in the Open Appointments Press Release as they become available.

The Secretary of State takes applications for Board Member appointments and the Governor makes the appointments.
