The Second Minnesota Regiment at Mission Ridge

This sweeping Civil War painting by artist Douglas Volk depicts another example of Minnesota’s important role within the ranks of the Union army. On November 25, 1863, the Second Minnesota Regiment was part of the assault on Mission Ridge, ultimately capturing two confederate cannons and sealing a victory for the union. The battle depicted was but one of the regiment’s many feats during their four years of service.
