Additional Funding Sources - Employment
Depending upon your needs, the following sources may be able to provide additional help in paying for the assistive technology you need to reach your career goals. Click on each service to learn about it.
In Minnesota, Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) is available through the state’s Department of Employment and Economic Development. VRS offers a variety of services to help people with disabilities prepare for, find, and keep a job. Services may include paying for vocational training or a degree program.

If you live in another state or territory, go to the Rehabilitation Services Administration website to find Vocational Rehabilitation Services in your area.
If you qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) you may be eligible for the Plan to Achieve Self-Support (PASS) provision, which lets an individual with a disability use money and other assets to pay for items and services that help achieve a work-related goal.

You may choose to pay for the technology yourself as a last resort or to avoid a lot of bureaucracy and red tape. Minnesota has an Alternative Finance Program that gives low-interest micro loans to Minnesotans with disabilities to help them buy assistive technology devices and services.
