What you need to know about requesting a reasonable job accommodation:

  1. You, or someone on your behalf, must notify your employer that you would like to request an accommodation. You may put your request in writing or speak directly with your employer.  See a Link Icon sample accommodation request letter.
  2. Be prepared! You may need to explain the reason for your request and provide additional information, including medical justification, to support your request.
  3. You and your employer may need to meet to discuss your request and accommodation options.
  4. Your employer is allowed to offer you an alternative accommodation, as long as it meets your needs.
