MnDOT has 20 Transportation Generalist ($18.15 - $22.82/hour; $37,897 - $47,648/year) vacancies located throughout the Metro area.
Duties: Transportation Generalists maintain and reconstruct roadways; maintain traffic barriers; participate in bituminous road repair, culvert cleaning; guardrail repair; and maintain roadsides. Transportation Generalists drive and operate a variety of heavy equipment to perform snow and ice duties. Also, performs preventive maintenance on highway equipment.
Qualifications: Exam Part 1 (Licensure): Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction. Some vacancies require a Class B CDL with no air brake restriction. In addition, some positions may require a tanker endorsement. YOU MUST POSSESS AND LIST CDL, INCLUDING CLASS "A" OR "B", WITH NO AIR BRAKE RESTRICTION AND ANY AND ALL ENDORSEMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS ON YOUR RESUME. Exam Part 1 (Experience): one (1) year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience). * Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Exam Part 2: Receipt of a passing score of Level 3 or higher on the math portion of the computerized test and Level 4 or higher on the computerized reading test. [The job offer is contingent on passing a basic math and reading test.] Applicants meeting Exam Part 1 will be contacted to test and may select a test site based on their geographic availability.
