2014: TPT Releases New Documentary
"Independence to Inclusion" is on TPT
The Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities worked in collaboration with Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) to produce a new documentary on the stigma and stereotypes that continue to haunt people with disabilities.
Negative attitudes and stereotypes against people with developmental disabilities have long outlasted Minnesota's state institutions. Given these biases, how will inclusion in schools, the workplace, and the community affect the lives of thousands of Minnesotans with developmental disabilities?
This 27-minute documentary originally aired on April 15, 2014, and discussed what it will look like as Minnesota strives to complete the journey from institutionalization to independence to inclusion.
This TPT documentary is a follow-up to 2010's "Institutions to Independence" and its companion book, "Know Your Rights." This documentary was supported by a cy pres fund that was created by the Jensen Settlement of 2011.
"Independence to Inclusion" was dedicated to the late P. Kenneth Kohnstamm, Assistant Attorney General.
