Smart Grid


The PUC first opened an investigation into smart grid in 2008 and asked for input from utilities, stakeholders and the public. In June 2009, the Commission issued an Order in docket 08-948 :

  1. requiring utilities to submit annual reports on current and planned smart grid projects;
  2. encouraging utilities to petition for cost recovery of reasonable costs related to smart grid;
  3. stating that it may require enhanced information on pricing to purchasers of electricity service; and
  4. stating its intention to continue gathering information on smart grid through public meetings.

From 2012-2014, Commission held a series of topical smart grid issues workshops. Presentation materials from each workshop is available below.

On December 31, 2014, the Commission issued its Order Closing Docket, choosing to refocus on how to more effectively facilitate the development of an integrated, dynamic grid.
