The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) approved a $10.3 billion investment package of 18 transmission projects, three of which are entirely or partially located in Minnesota. The projects were called Tranche One.
These projects were approved by MISO to help integrate additional generation, mainly renewables, and to increase resiliency in the electricity energy grid. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (Commission) is beginning its review of applications related to the Tranche one projects in Minnesota, which will include certificate of needs and route permits for the individual projects. MISO assumes in-service dates by 2030.
