General Information
Peace officer and part-time peace officer licenses are valid for a three-year period with a renewal date of June 30th on the third year of licensure.
On March 1st of each year, POST issues a letter to all Chief Law Enforcement Officers and all individual active and inactive officers. The letter outlines the requirements for renewal and includes the current year’s renewal application.
Each officer must successfully complete 48 hours of law enforcement related continuing education within their three year renewal period. One hour of training equals one continuing education credit.

License Renewal Information
A license renewal application and payment made online will be rejected if an officer does not meet these requirements at the time they, or the agency, attempt to renew the license.
A license renewal application and payment made by mail will be rejected and returned if an officer does not meet these requirements at the time they, or the agency, attempt to renew the license.
If an officer has concerns about the accuracy of their POST training record, it is the officer's responsibility to contact the course sponsor and have the sponsor submit an “Affidavit of Attendance" for the course that is missing.
A renewed license certificate will be sent by mail once an officer has sufficient continuing education credits, met all mandatory learning objective requirements, and the renewal fee is paid. The license will be valid for another three years.
If an officer’s license is not renewed by the June 30 deadline, the license will expire and a license restoration will be required.
