Chief Business Technology Officer (CBTO)
Matthew Porett is the Chief Business Technology Officer (CBTO) for the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Department of Education, the Office of Higher Education, the Minnesota Academy for the Deaf, the Minnesota Academy for the Blind, and the Perpich Center for Arts Education. He has served in state government for the majority of his career, although he did leave the state for five years to work for a local web development company, Avenet.
Mr. Porett was CIO for the State of Minnesota’s Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). He oversaw the logical and technical infrastructure merger and relocation of Department of Trade and Economic Development and the Department of Economic Security (forming DEED). He provided technical oversight to the re-engineering of the state’s Unemployment Insurance Program, and served as lead for development of the United States Department of Labor’s CareerOneStop suite of electronic tools and services.
Mr. Porett has also served as Vice President of Digital Imagery, Ltd., a consulting firm specializing in medically relevant exhibit systems for the pharmaceutical industry. He was a Policy Fellow at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, a graduate of Albright College (B.A.) and Lehigh University (M.A.).
