Chief Business Technology Officer (CBTO)
Robert Maki has 28 years of professional experience in the IT industry, and has been Chief Business Technology Officer (CBTO) at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources since 2006, during which he has focused on transforming IT services at the agency into a shared services delivery model, featuring an IT services portfolio, business-led governance oversight, comprehensive computing equipment replacement programs, and developing a fee-based business application development and support model. Prior to that he served as the DNR’s lead geospatial infrastructure designer and supervised the agency’s GIS operations. During this period, he also developed and taught graduate level courses in geospatial sciences at the University of Minnesota, and served as a graduate student advisor. Robert began his professional career in a seven year stint at Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) in Redlands, California, where he was Quality Assurance Manager for application products. He was originally trained as a natural resources scientist and holds a Master’s Degree from the Gaylord Nelson Institute at the University of Wisconsin, where he conducted research in digital terrain model processing, and automated feature extraction algorithms using earth observation satellite imagery.
