In government, funds are created to improve accountability for sources of money that are to be used for specific purposes in accordance with laws and regulations or special restrictions. The State of Minnesota has 182 funds established in its enterprise accounting system. The funds and their definitions are provided below. The revenues and expenditures, in millions, for fiscal year 2013 have also been included to help the reader understand the size of the funds. The numbers are based on a fiscal year and will not reconcile to the states CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report) or Budget Reports.
