Yes: Your spouse is eligible for coverage if you are married under Minnesota law.
No: Your spouse is not eligible if they work full-time for an employer with more than 100 employees and chose to receive cash or credits in place of health insurance, or in addition to a health plan with a deductible of $750 or greater.
The spouse eligibility questionnaire will help you determine if your spouse is eligible for coverage:
You must send documents to prove the dependents you added to your benefits are eligible.
You are required to send documents to SEGIP to prove your spouse or dependent are eligible before they may be covered on the state's medical, dental, vision, or life coverage.
Once you enroll in benefits, watch your mail for a letter requesting dependent verification documents. The letter is mailed to the home address on file in Self Service. This letter will tell you the documents you need to submit and how to submit them.
If you do not provide documents by the deadline stated in your letter, spouses or dependents will be removed from your coverage back to the date of enrollment. You will not have the opportunity to re-enroll until the next Open Enrollment period or until you experience a qualifying life event.
Be sure to send all required documents.
Contact SEGIP if you have a question regarding proof of eligibility, the required documents, or the deadline to submit.
The only time you can make changes to your benefits outside of Open Enrollment is when you experience a qualifying life event. Go to the Change My Coverage page for information about qualifying life events.
