Reading proficiency by third grade is a predictor of high school graduation and career success. This chart shows the percent of tested students who meet or exceed achievement standards set by Minnesota educators for proficiency in third grade reading. In 2013, a new reading test was introduced and established a new baseline.
In 2016, 58% of students in third grade scored proficient in reading during accountability testing; this is unchanged from 2013.
