In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, this page highlights events taking place throughout Minnesota that celebrate and highlight the legacy of Dr. King. 2020 Twin Ports MLK Breakfast and Rally

This year's community breakfast will feature a live-stream broadcast of Minneapolis' MLK Celebration with their keynote speaker Eric Holder, former attorney general who is currently focused on issues of redistricting and gerrymandering and how they affect voting rights. 
Rally: This year’s theme is centered around King’s Give Us the Ballot and We Will Transform the South. In his speech, Dr. King speaks to the importance of political power and the right to vote. He states “Let us realize that as we struggle for justice and freedom, we have cosmic companionship

36th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration

The 36th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration will occur on Monday, January 20, 2020 in the CSU Ballroom on the campus of MSU, Mankato. The 2020 Pathfinder Award, Young Pathfinder Award, Business Pathfinder Award and the Leadership Pathfinder Awards recipients will be honored at this community celebration.

30th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Breakfast

Hot breakfast served family style. Opportunity to impact your community following the event at U.S. Bank Stadium. To enable more viewers to experience the MLK Breakfast, we have transitioned from a televised event to a Live Stream Event. Following the Breakfast, join us at U.S. Bank Stadium for an opportunity to impact students and teachers in your community. Register to volunteer here. (You do not need to attend the Breakfast to volunteer.)

Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Service Event

MLK Day of Service is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community."  A collaboration between HandsOn Twin Cities, General Mills, and the Minnesota Vikings this family-friendly event will feature three volunteer activities – assembly of snack packs and school supply kits for local students and creating cards for local teachers.

Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration 

Each year hundreds of Twin Cities community members come together to celebrate the life and work of Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr at Powderhorn Park. The event features local performers, artists, free books for the first 200 kids and a community meal. During the event food is collected for various organizations.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation

Host: Augsburg University

The 39th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute  

The 39th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute will take place on Sunday, January 19. A not to be missed multi-disciplinary celebration intermixing the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with musical performances. This annual concert is free of charge and open to the general public. Contact:  Barbara Chapin, 651-626-7386

Minneapolis College: Celebration and Engagement

Inspired by the teachings of Yolanda and Bernice King, the celebration began incorporating service work as one of the major activities of the celebration. Rooted in its long tradition of celebration and service, the 2019 Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration is framed by the Kwanzaa principle of Collective Work and Responsibility. St. Cloud

Martin Luther King Breakfast and Day of Service

The event begins with a delicious and wholesome breakfast. This year's keynote address will focus on service and leadership. We will recognize the service of veterans and first responders as well as other volunteers who selflessly serve our community. An onsite community service project and a community dialogue will round out the event. A special program for children grades K-5 will focus on intercultural literacy.; The program is free and open to the public.

34th Annual State of Minnesota Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan will host the 34th Annual State of Minnesota Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration on January 20 at the Ordway. This event is not to be missed and is an opportunity for community to come together, reflect and build on the legacy of Dr. King, strengthen connections, and celebrate the Black experience. The theme for this year’s celebration is "For Our Children."

MLK Jr. Community Day 

Celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. with a day of music, rhythm, and service at the Minnesota History Center. The VocalEssence youth choir will draw on songs from their vast catalog and youth drummers from ARTS-Us will share rhythms from across the African diaspora. Families can also drop in to assemble roadside kindness kits as part of a service project with Small Sums, a nonprofit that supports people experiencing homelessness.  
*Note that there is a regular admission fee to this event, all MLK programming and museum exhibits are included. Please refer to the website or contact the Historical Society
