Increasing the number of Teachers of Color and American Indian educators in Minnesota has been the chief priority of the state Ethnic Councils, along with the Indian Affairs Council for the past two legislative sessions. In the 2019 session, our Councils and a broad stakeholder group succeeded in advocating for the State Legislature and Governor to recognize and include these educators as a new educator shortage group beyond the preexisting licensure area and geographic area shortages.This means that ALL employed TOCAIT now qualify for student loan forgiveness awards up to $1,000. Applicants must apply annually.
