Katya has a wide range of experience in multiple sectors including 6 years in Education, 3 years in Non-Profit, and 5 years in Healthcare. Most recently she was the Latinx Liaison for District #593 and the Certified Migrant Liaison for the Migrant Education Program. She was also the former Executive Director for United Way of Crookston, where she founded the first Student United Way Chapter in Minnesota.
Katya is originally from Mexico City and earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Organizational Psychology from the University of Minnesota-Crookston. Her former professional experience includes research in mental health, non-profit and grant management, program development and consultation & training in education and mental health issues with a racial equity lens. She has served as a board member for United Ways of Minnesota and served in the Early Childhood Task Force, Chair of the North West Minnesota Arts Council, Youth Media Cohort member for Prairie Public Broadcasting, board member of In-Progress a non-profit organization whose purpose is ‘to diversify cultural dialogue and pave the way for new voices in the field of digital art making’, and former Team Member of the North East Human Trafficking Multidisciplinary Team. She also holds an Equity and Cultural Awareness in Education Certificate from Literacy Minnesota
