Born in Crookston, Minnesota, February 11, 1896. Brought up on a farm in Saum in Beltrami County. Graduated from Bemidji High School in 1916 and from the University of Minnesota in 1926 with B.A and LL.B. degrees. Served 23 months overseas in World War I with First Infantry Division. Elected Associate Justice in 1944 and reelected thereafter. Died in office on February 28, 1960.
