Born in Kilbourn City, Wisconsin, June 23, 1857. Came to Minnesota in 1863, locating in Blue Earth County. Admitted to practice law in 1884. In 1888 elected County Attorney of Faribault County and reelected four times. In 1897, appointed by Governor Clough to the office of District Judge of the Seventeenth Judicial District. Served until 1916, when elected Associate Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court. Reelected in 1922. In 1928, ill health caused his retirement from the court. Died February 15, 1930 in St. Paul.
