Born and raised in St. Paul. Attended public schools, graduated from University of Minnesota Law School in 1912, LL.B., cum laude. Served as Assistant County Attorney and County Attorney of Ramsey County. Elected Attorney General in 1932, reelected 1934, 1936. Appointed Associate Justice of Minnesota Supreme Court in 1936, elected in 1938, and reelected in 1944. After resigning in 1950, practiced in Minneapolis. Died January 23, 1985.
