Born in Boonville, New York, on September 28,1829. Received an academic education in his native state and moved to Minnesota in 1857 to practice law. Served as County Attorney of Blue Earth County for four years. In 1866, was a member of the House, and in 1881 a member of the Senate. Elected Associate Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court for term commencing January 1, 1894. Resigned on November 14, 1899, because of his wife's ill health. Died at Mankato, Minnesota, on May 21, 1905.
