Melissa Cerda

Melissa Cerda works as the Senior Cultural Resources Manager for the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and History from the University of Texas. After graduation, Melissa moved to Minnesota where she is pursuing a Master’s degree in Cultural Heritage Studies at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. 

While working at the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council, Melissa has worked on a multitude of projects about the historic preservation of sites of importance to Minnesota’s Indigenous peoples. Some of these projects include burial recoveries, repatriation through both Minnesota Statute 307.08 as well as NAGPRA, and compliance work that helps protect American Indian sites from development. Melissa’s work has led to several years of experience working with, Tribal councils and offices, State agencies, cultural resource management firms, museums, educational programs, and universities, in both Minnesota and across the country.
